Scam Hunters episode No. 4: The Nurse

If you aren’t caught up, make sure to check out the previous episodes of Scam Hunters!

This episode of Scam Hunters begins with a light-hearted exchange about Heidi’s DIY efforts in setting up her IKEA bed, a puzzle we’ve all struggled to solve at one point or another.

As the conversation turns to the mystery at hand, Heidi is more motivated than ever to catch the scammers, but Ezra reminds her their first order of business is to uncover the vulnerabilities that these people could have used to exploit their victims. That way, they can set up a ‘honeypot’ (or decoy) to catch the hackers red-handed.

Heidi reviews the list of vulnerabilities she’s uncovered to date. Not so much for Sunflower Hospice; that system seems fairly impenetrable. The thrift shop, on the other hand, is a different story. Heidi lays out her findings of potential suspects and motives.

Trevor had mentioned to Heidi that he gets access to patients’ home addresses from a nurse named Iman Rashida for donation pickups, taking Heidi down a new path of discovery.

Heidi bravely confronts Iman at his home, leading to a heated exchange that uncovers potential HIPAA violations and an ominous connection between the patients and their missing credit cards. After Heidi’s intense grilling, Iman finally reveals some information that gives Heidi and Ezra more leads to pursue: A notary, Brad, involved in finalizing patient paperwork, and a priest, Father De Silva, who performs last rights.
